About the event
Join us on Saturday, January 17th, 2026 for our Winter Dinner and Concert featuring Chef Gene deVries & Queens Chamber Players. We are excited to bring people together for a remarkable evening celebrating good food and music. We have Peter deVries to thank for bringing the Queens Chamber Players and his son, Gene deVries, to the Farm at Windy Hill.
The evening will begin with appetizers and wine and will then move into our concert by Queens Chamber Players. The group will perform “Trout Quintet” by Austrian composer Franz Shubert. After the performance we will move into an Austrian inspired family style meal prepared by Gene deVries. The evening will conclude with dessert, coffee and a few surprise musical pieces.
Chef Gene deVries is a New York City chef whose versatility spans Michelin-starred kitchens like Crown Shy and SAGA, and international experience cooking at Quintonil in Mexico City. He co-developed a community-driven pop-up and dinner series with chef and sommelier Tyler Silvestre, blending influences from Portugal and the Carolinas. Gene’s cooking reflects precise technique, thoughtful sourcing, and a dedication to creating meaningful, community-centered dining experiences. Virginia-born chef Tyler Evans will be joining the culinary team as well. After working in some of New York’s most exciting restaurants - as well as in private dining and at retreats around the world - he founded West Cape, where he combines culinary craftsmanship with local artisans and showcases the highest-quality local ingredients.
The Queens Chamber Players is a classical music ensemble led by pianist Paul Nitsch and violinist Peter deVries and is known for performing beloved chamber works like Schubert's "Trout Quintet" in accessible community settings, particularly around the Queens, NC area, bringing together professional musicians for enjoyable concerts. We will be welcoming musicians Paul Nitsch (piano), Peter deVries (violin), Vasily Gorkovoy (viola), Grace Anderson (cello) and Kurt Riecken (bass) to perform for our event.
